Giovanni Maria Butteri (Florence circa 1540 - 1606) workshop of Holy Family and St. John Oil on panel 72 x 56 cm The artwork represents an exemplification of Florentine painting in the second half of the 16th century. At this time in the capital of the Grand Duchy, there was an important pictorial activity that we find summarised in the magnificent Studiolo di Francesco I in the Palazzo Vecchio. This small, secluded room contains the artworks of the most illustrious Florentine painters, who, supervised by Giorgio Vasari and his disciple Giovan Battista Adriani, contributed to the decoration. These were: Alessandro Allori, Andrea del Minga, Domenico Buti, Giovanni Maria Butteri, Vittore Casini, Mirabello Cavalori, Jacopo Coppi, Alessandro Fei, Maso da San Friano, Santi di Tito, Vasari and others.
