Andrea Michieli, il Vicentino (Vicenza circa 1542 - Venice 1618) Triumph of Venus Between the Zodiac Signs of Taurus and Libra Oil on canvas 156 x 208,5 cm This splendid and important testimony of Venetian Mannerism highlights all the aesthetic peculiarities of the Vicentino. In addition to the perfectly coherent painting technique, the figures are also depicted in other paintings: the figure on the back is painted in the Giudizio di Paride (Judgement of Paris) preserved in the Quadreria Emo Capodilista in the Museo Civico Eremitani in Padua. The handmaiden to the right of Venus is found in Ratto d'Europa, from a private collection and registered under no. 356700 in the Cini Photo Library. The figure of Venus appears in the lower register of Alexius I Comnenus Meets Doge Dandolo in Zara, housed in the Doge's Palace in Venice. Finally, Venus and the figure shown from the back are represented almost identically in the lower right-hand corner in Moses and the Collection of Manna from the Diocese of Treviso.
