Rembrandt van Rijn (Leiden 1606 - Amsterdam 1669) pupil/circle of Head of an Old Man Oil on panel 35 x 29 cm Although the panel is very dirty and with oxidised varnish, one can glimpse a remarkable expressive quality, given by brushstrokes that are as quick and light as they are decisive and precise. By the consideration of this, it must be referred to pupils or members of the master's circle. Let us therefore mention only the most famous of them, including Salomon Koninck, Govert Flinck, Jan Lievens, Gerrit Dou. His pupil Ferdinand Bol and his pupil Willem Drost also deserve to be mentioned in this small circle of Dutch masters of clear Rembrandtian influence.
