Auction 38

Master of the Blue Mountains (active in Venice in the second half of the 18th century)

Master of the Blue Mountains (active in Venice in the second half of the 18th century) Landscape with Ancient Parish Church and Wayfarers Oil on canvas 59 x 79 cm The artwork is part of the vast panorama of 18th-century Venetian Arcadian landscape painting. In particular, the canvas demonstrates how the artist was well acquainted with the Venetian masters, such as Ricci, Zais and Zuccarelli, and even more so with the sharp colourism and perspective spatiality derived from the workshop of Michele Marieschi and his successor Francesco Albotto. Particularly noticeable in the work is a certain meticulous attention to detail, a textural painting and a brushstroke that is as loose as it is sure. These elements lead one to attribute the work to the artist conventionally known as the "Master of the Blue Mountains", also known as the "Master of Correr Landscapes".
